Chinese smartphone maker Xiaomi has made its way into the record books–literally. The manufacturer announced Thursday it had set a Guinness World Record for smartphone sales, selling 2.11 million devices in a 12-hour online sale last Wednesday.
Xiaomi established the world record for selling the most phones in a single online platform within a 24-hour time period. The staggeringly high sales volume yielded a total of $2.08 billion yuan, or $335 million, in revenue for the low-cost smartphone maker.
The 12-hour sale was part of an annual “Mi Fan Festival” the company holds around its birthday. Last year, the company sold 1.3 million phones during the event.
The past few years have been very successful for Xiaomi. The company overtook Lenovo and LG last year to become the third largest smartphone manufacturer in the world based on global shipments. Xiaomi only came into existence in 2010, but it is projected to sell 150 million devices in 2015. To put that number in perspective, the manufacturer only sold 7 million phones in 2012 and 19 million in 2013.
