The much-anticipated Windows 10 operating system is expected to hit the market soon, making Windows phone enthusiasts excited about the smartphone that will likely follow.
According to Terry Myerson, executive vice president of operating systems at Microsoft, the flagship Windows 10 phone will be released “later this year.”
Microsoft will have ample opportunity to show off this new phone early on in the year, with the Mobile World Congress 2015 scheduled to start March 2 and the Build Conference set for some time in April. Nevertheless, analysts are predicting the company will hold off on showing its new phone to the world until the end of the year.
There is still some hope on the horizon for users who want to see new Windows phones at the early tech conferences. Rumor has it that a new Lumia 3xx or 4xx is likely to be introduced during the MWC 2015.
Not releasing the Windows 10 phone at the beginning of the year may not be a great strategy with the Samsung Galaxy S6 and the HTC Hima expected for the first half of the year. Microsoft may not be able to stand up to the competition if it waits too long, so hopefully the phone is worth the patience.
