Starbucks Adding Wireless Phone Chargers to 7,000 Stores

Starbucks has yet another way to attract new customers. They will be incorporating free wireless phone chargers into more than 7,000 stores over the course of the next two years.

The plan is to put about 13 Duracell Powermats in each store which will allow customers to charge their phones without a wall outlet. Customers can simply check out a charging ring from the counter and plug it into the standard charging portal for their phones. The rings use magnetic induction to connect to the Duracell Powermat, and then the mat starts charging the phone.

The wireless phone chargers are currently being tested in some Boston stores.

The charging stations are expected to take the same amount of time to charge the phone as a traditional wall charger. You might not be able to get your phone charged in a single cup of coffee, but perhaps that’s the thought behind this service–potentially more sales.

Starbucks already offers free Wi-Fi in most of their restaurants.

Starbucks plans to have all 100,000+ charging stations in their stores by the end of 2016. If you’re a fan of the coffee giant, you may have yet another reason to go there.
