GoodSAM App Brings Emergency Responders to You

911 Phone

A new app introduced London could enhance response time in emergency situations. The app alerts nearby emergency responders who may not be on duty when you are in need. This may enable responders to arrive at the scene before an ambulance, and this might just save your life in he process.

The app is called GoodSAM, short for Good Smartphone Activated Medics, and it is getting a lot of attention in the London area. There are two sides to the GoodSAM program–one for alerters and one for responders. These are set up as two completely different apps.

With GoodSAM Alerter, you can set up an account with basic medical details that a responder could use to treat you. During an emergency, you or someone with access to your phone can send out a broadcast for help through the app. The app will send out the message for you, and then it will ask if you want to call for emergency assistance, assuming you haven’t already.

The emergency workers who want to receive alerts may register through the GoodSAM Responder app. This requires them to go through a verification process to ensure they are, in fact, qualified to work as emergency responders. Those who pass the verification process are sent notifications whenever someone nearby is in need.

The app is not the first of its kind, but it has received significant exposure. With continued awareness campaigns about the app, the program may spread to other parts of the world.
